Portland Family Photographer | Mini Sessions September 14th

My wife and I were chatting, about us moving to Boise and how many amazing clients I have in Portland, and I decided that I want to commit to coming back to Portland for two mini session dates each year. I did one date back in June, and it was such an amazing and wonderful weekend of seeing clients, meeting their kids/seeing them a year older, and I realized that being able to watch families grow up is one of the wonderful things about being a photographer, and I don’t want to miss out on that.

So I just scheduled my second date for mini sessions in Portland, it’s September 14th, 2019, and the sessions will be at the Hoyt Arboretum, a beautiful location that works perfectly for mini sessions. Click here to reserve your spot, and let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!

Here’s some of my favorite shots from my last mini sessions, and thank you again to everyone who booked a session with me!

Canon EOS R Wedding Photography | Unboxing

On this episode of materialism Monday-

I just bought the Canon EOS R. Considering that I was trash talking it (albeit while knowing nothing about it) when it was initially released in October 2018, I was a bit humbled to be dropping my money on it. I've started doing a lot more video work, and I absolutely love it. It’s so inspiring to me to be able to implement what I love about still images and compliment it with motion and audio (insert tingly feeling), I love it.

So this all started when my mother in law asked me if I could video a project for her. I responded, “Uh, sure, just so you know I don’t know how to actually do that, but I do have all the right stuff to do it, I’m in.” So I started researching how to shoot video on my 5D Mk III’s, how to record high quality audio and I purchased a set of super rad and cheap LED Video Lights, and I was off.

The project for my mother-in-law was really simple, which is part of why I felt so confident taking it on with literally no video experience, but it was simply filming an online course where she and her business partner share the unique curriculum the’ve come up with based on their life and career experiences. From a creative perspective, it’s not the most exciting content to create, I use my two Canon 5D Mk III’s, on tripods, I use my Canon 50mm F1.2L on camera one and it captures both people, and then I run my Canon 135mm F2L on camera two and pan it between the two of them, but regardless, after being a professional photographer for over twelve years, capturing content with motion, movement and audio, was super inspiring to me, and I knew I was hooked. Actually, to show how ridiculous I am, after that day I texted several people saying, “How much is video rehab, because I can already tell I’m addicted :)”.

Boise Family Photographer | Hulls Gulch

I had a blast with the L family, exploring the Hulls Gulch Foothills area on a beautiful Saturday morning in Boise. This is such a sweet family and it was so much fun to capture the joy and connection that they have with each other. The photos of Weston (the little boy) with the stick are some of my favorite photos ever, I think they really capture the joy of little boys with sticks (and whacking people with sticks :))

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, this is the shoot that I rode the lime scooter home (over 7 miles, 70 minutes) from with all of my gear, which was such a blast, I felt like I must’ve looked so hilarious, in nice clothes, with a huge backpack on and a cowboy hat, on a lime scooter :).

I’ve said this before, but photographing families is extremely rewarding for me. As a dad I know how much the photos of your kids mean to parents, and how quickly kids change and grow up. Every time I post a blog post and share the final gallery with parents, I’m so excited for them to see the photos of their family and kids just being themselves. I hope it helps people see the beauty in their family and relationships.

Thank you for hiring me L family and for the wonderful morning. Happy Friday, hope everyone’s weekend is great.
