The Three Basics of Photography
An Online Workshop | February 2021
My name is Bryan Rupp, I’ve been a professional photographer since 2006. I’ve photographed over 400 weddings in addition to years of shooting for commercial clients. The technical aspects of photography are incredibly simple, there’s really only three settings you need to understand. They can just be confusing. After all these years I still find so much joy in photography, so I put this class together to empower others to dust off that DSLR or Mirrorless camera and put it to good use taking photos of the people and moments you love, and the scenes that inspire you. By the end of this course you will be able to manually control your camera to achieve the look you want from your images.
About the Course
The course will be four weeks long and it will be live, held on zoom. I’ll be instructing the course, and we’ll meet each Tuesday in February (the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd to be exact) at 7:00p.m. PST. Even though I’ll be bringing instruction, examples and “rules” (rules are silly, and yes, they’re meant to be broken, but they’re also helpful to know :)), the course will be driven heavily by feedback and questions from participants.
Course Schedule
Week 1 | Aperture - How to get the blurry backgrounds that you want.
Week 2 | Shutterspeed - Understanding shutter speed and using it to achieve your vision.
Week 3 | ISO - What ISO is and how it works.
Week 4 | Editing - Using Lightroom to edit your photos and get the look you want. (adobe has a free 7 day trial for lightroom, lightroom is the standard editing tool for photographers, so if you don’t have lightroom you can get a free trial for week 4)
Course Bonus - My Lightroom Presets + Brushes ($67 value)
After over 14 years of professional photography I have seen every possible weird lighting situation, and I’ve created these presets to apply to all the different wild lighting situations you can find yourself in. This icnludes 20 custom lightroom presets as well as 15 brushes/gradients.
