Caldwell Family Photos

It has been an amazing November in Boise. I can’t believe how warm it’s been, I’ve been out on multiple photo/video shoots feeling the sunshine on my shoulders and thinking to myself, “you should eat a burrito outside, this could be the last warm day for a good while…” . And themn I think the same thing the next day, and the next day, and run way over my monthly burrito budget, but happiness is priceless, and eating a burrito outside on a sunny day is happiness. Correct me if I’m wrong.

The reason for the above rambling, is because Courtney told me that she wanted to get her families photoshoot in before it got cold, and I was so excited when we had a beautiful sunny evening in Mid-November out in Caldwell on Courtneys dad’s farm.. The light was gorgeous. I definitely consider myself a minimalist when it comes to photography, I don’t want a bunch of extra gear bogging me down at shoots, I’m much more focused on capturing moments as they’re happening, versus picking up lights and umbrellas that blow over in the wind (because they do ALL THE TIME…."). One awesome thing about shooting out on this farmland was that all the light-colored grass and dirt reflects light beautifully. Since I don’t carry reflectors or lights with me for these types of shoots, I’ve learned to look for and utilize natural reflectors (things that naturally reflect light), and this shoot was full of them.

Also this family is wonderful. I could tell they really enjoy each other and find adventures around every corner. The boys made fun of every setting we used and they pushed it to the limits (climbing on top of the wood pile, kicking the piles of dirt, climbing and jumping out of the tree, whacking each other with sticks, etc….) . Thank you M family for hiring me to take these photos, and giving me a little glimpse into your life.

Boise Train Depot Photos | Jenna

I had a blast hanging with Jenna and her dad, we had a beautiful Saturday morning in Boise, we started out shooting near Hull’s Gulch, one of my favorite places to shoot in Boise, and then we finished up at the Train Depot in Boise, an iconic Boise location that gets used for lots of photoshoots.

We also played it cool (tromped into the train depot like we knew what we were doing) in hopes that people would think we were vendors for an event that was setting up there….and we succeeded.

When I think of high school seniors, I don’t think of the most mature beings on the planet, but Jenna is clearly very mature beyond her years, and she plans to go to college to be a nurse, which is super cool. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the storytelling, but thanks Jenna and Travis for having me take these photos, and for spending a Saturday morning with me.

Black Pearl on The Columbia Wedding

What an incredible day this was. Incredible people, incredible weather, incredible locations. October in Western Oregon is always a guess, it could be amazing and beautiful, or you could find yourself outside in the rain, crying, wondering what happened to the sunshine :).

Luckily Amy Ruth and Sam’s wedding was the earlier, I don’t think the day could’ve been any more beautiful, the temperature was perfect, Mt Hood was looming gorgeously in the distance and the light was as pretty as can be (and I’ve seen a lot of light in my days as a photographer :)).

This was my first time ever photographing a wedding at The Black Pearl on the Columbia, a new venue to the greater Portland area, and wow, it was impressive and beautiful. I loved the architecture, the way it sits high above the river, the HUGE windows that showcase the pacific northwest and let that pretty light I was talking about inside.

Of all of this, the thing that made the day, and these photos the best, was Amy Ruth and Sam, their relationship and connection with each other and their relationship with their community. I really struggled to narrow the photos down for this post, and there’s still 250 photos here, and that’s mostly because Amy Ruth and Sam interact in such a beautiful way, so there’s so many moments from this wedding that could’ve just been people walking, but instead they show a beautiful connection and love.

Wow, guess I’m feeling wordy today, here’s the photos…

Amy Ruth and Sam, thank you so much for hiring me and for all of your kindness throughout the entire process. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
