Boise Photographer | Halloween Birthday Party

This was amazing…and like nothing else I’ve ever photographed. I wore a skeleton onesie costume for this shoot (which was admittedly an extremely weak sauce costume, Jenee the coordinator told me that maybe I could be entered in the “is that really a costume” contest 😂(which was a really contest at this party)).

It was Rose’s 40th birthday and to celebrate this milestone she and her family put on an INCREDIBLE Halloween party. Bliss events absolutely slayed this party and I’ll give you a description that will explain how legit the party was, it was complete with a psychic, DJ, scare zone, incredible food + drinks, coffin, hurst (a real one, who’s license plate read “timezup”) actors and a bunch of incredible costumes. Boise’s vendor scene was well represented (see vendor list and links below)

I love these types of shoots, and anything interesting and unique. Part of the fun of this shoot was the challenge of capturing the atmosphere as it actually was. I could’ve used a flash or lights and smashed the ambiance to smithereens, but I wanted the photos (and video, I shot a movie style trailer for the party) to show what the party was REALLY like, so I chose to shoot available light only, and it was a very dark party. I was amazed at how well the EOS R performed in low light, I shot both on it and my 5D Mk III, and the EOS R outpaced the Mk III by 100x. It focused easily and accurately in the dark situation, and nailed the focus even when I was shooting at F1.2. The Mk III took much longer to lock focus, and then it missed focus more often. It was hard to see when the Mk III was in focus compared to the EOS R’s EVF viewfinder. I trash talked the EOS R when it was launched based on it’s specs, but once I had it in my hands it was a different story and I was left apologizing and caressing my beautiful new camera. This shoot, more than any other so far has showed me how impressive the EOS R is, and I’m so excited for the pro version of it to launch soon.

I’ll be sure to post the movie trailer once I’ve got it finished.

Happy Birthday Rose, thanks so much for hiring me, it was an honor to be a part of this incredible party.

Bryan

Columbia River Gorge Family Photographs | The I Family

I love this family, and I feel so incredibly grateful that they’ve crossed over the border from being clients to being friends. I don’t get to see them as often as I’d like, but I’ve sought out Molly’s advice and recommendations when making career pivots, and her and I have met up to chat about photography as she’s started doing photography as one portion of her own business and she runs a PR firm as her own business, Noteworthy PR.

I’ve taken family photos of them one more time but it was so fun to see the newest addition to their family as well as to catch up with Molly and Jared and hear about Molly starting her own business. The photography business is so much a people business and I’m a person who really loves being with other people, if I could just hang out with people all day, listen to them talk about what they love and what they do and make photos and videos of them, I would in a heartbeat. I’m actually working on doing that for my full time gig :).

Molly and Jared, thanks so much for making the trek out to the Gorge and for hiring me to take photos of your beautiful family.

Columbia River Gorge Family Photos | Funks Island

Ok, you may know that this (apparently it’s now named Funk’s Island?) is one of my very favorite locations in the Columbia River Gorge. It is incredible. It has everything you could want from a photo session location, all within easy walking distance of your car. The most negative thing about the location is keeping all of the photographers out of your shots (seriously, I think I saw five other photographers there shooting at the same time as me).

I was so honored that the M family drove all the way out to the Gorge from Albany to do this family photo shoot with me. We had a beautiful afternoon and as always I enjoyed watching this family interact and seeing their family culture and how much fun they have together. I’ll let the photos to the rest of the talking here, they’re better at it anyways, but M family, thank you so much for hiring me and for making the trek out to the Gorge, so wonderful meeting you and spending a little time with you all.
